Yesterday afternoon Syracuse University, where Will attended graduate school, held a memorial for him at Hendrick's Chapel organized by the university's LGBT resource center. For more information, check out this article published today in the Daily Orange.
The memorial prize we are organizing in Will's name was mentioned both in the program for the event and during the service.

Thanks for posting this, Carrie. The memorial service at SU yesterday was very moving. The article in the Daily Orange catches the moment well. It was good to hear you and Katie's work mentioned and included in the program that was handed out. I also thought how important it is that people who knew Will and who know what he did at Wells and SU continue to be involved in this prize. It's too easy to re-write history after people are gone and then it takes a lot to recover it. What you and Katie are doing honors Will and tlgb people. It also furthers the work of making queer history visible at Wells. Thank you!

Thank you, Carrie for making sure to attach the link to the article for those of us who could not attend the service itself.
When I read the story about Will and his beard I laughed out loud - indeed, a growth experience for all involved... {wry smile}
There is much that Will continues to teach me about humility and humanity - even though he is no longer physically present. That's sort of the wonderful thing about death - it sharpens our sense of a person and causes those things that are least important to fall away so the brightest elements of them shine through.
