2018 Call for Nominations

Hi All - The call for nominations for the Willaim Nicholas Liberi '05 Prize for TLGBQ Activism and Scholarship is now active. This prize is awarded annually to a current student in good academic standing who has demonstrated a commitment to transgender and queer issues, especially through hir services as an ally to the Transgender, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Queer and Allies (TLGBQA) community via activism, visibility, literary, or artistic endeavors. This award was established to honor the life and leadership of Will Liberi '05, born March 22, 1984 - died September 11, 2007. As a student at Wells, Will led through one on one conversations, sharing of experiences, creative writing, and activism. Will was generous with his time and would be of support to anyone who was in need. A leader within the TLGBQ+ Wells community he reached out across all social identities to educate, inform, and transform. If you know a current Wells College student who you feel is right for the award, please submit a nomination using the form below. Please provide as much information as possible to help us evaluate candidates for the prize. Nominations are due by April 14, 2018.

2013 Prize Winners

We would like to offer belated recognition of the 2013 winners of the William Nicholas Liberi ’05 Prize for TLGBQ Activism & Scholarship. We had several excellent candidates for the award, from which we chose the following three winners: In recognition of dedicated work to raise awareness about the intersections of TLGBQ issues with issues of disability, the prize was awarded to James Howard. For taking proactive steps to address the need for gender inclusive restrooms in the Schwartz Athletic Center, the prize was awarded to Elizabeth Ingham. In recognition of dedicated work as chair of Sexuality and Gender Activists, the prize was awarded to Shannon Pronteau. Congratulations again to James, Elizabeth and Shannon! If you know a current student who you believe meets the criteria for this prize please send the individual’s name, along with a description of how you believe the student has demonstrated hir commitment to TLGBQ issues, and why ze should be considered for this award to Vic Muñoz at vmunoz@wells.edu by Monday, April 8th. We on the committee are all looking forward to learning about the exciting TLGBQ work that is being done on campus this year! In addition, I want to announce that Lee Bender will be joining us on the committee this year -- Welcome Lee! We look forward to your nominations, and we will update again when a recipient has been chosen.

2012 Prize Nominations

Hi all, the call for nominations is out for the 2012 William Nicholas Liberi '05 Prize for TLGBQ Activism and Scholarship (see below). Will was a tremendous trans activist and Wells alum who passed away in 2007. The prize is awarded to a current Wells College student each year in his honor. If you know a current Wells College student that you would like to nominate, email your nomination to Vic Munoz at vmunoz@wells.edu by April 15th.
